EMDR and Telehealth

Can you even do EMDR over telehealth?

The simple answer is yes! It is just as effective and can even be easier because you can have comfort items close.

But how?

Virtual EMDR starts the same way virtually as it does in person. We build trust and find tools that work for you to help you feel safe and present while we do hard work. Only once you feel safe and ready do we start to explore memories for reprocessing.

We agree you are ready for re-processing….awesome! Now we practice. We explore hoe you want to what’s called bilateral stimulation. This can be following my fingers or a light back and forth, tapping your legs or shoulders back and forth, or hearing a tone. We talk and explore which ones feel good for you.

We find the memories and start the reprocessing. I still check in, we make sure. you are ok before signing off, and we have a plan for if any not fun memories come up in between sessions.

Session is over….you’re already at home! Curl up on the couch, drink some tea, and commend yourself for doing the hard healing work.
